Trans/Action Monthly Info Session

The second TRANS/ACTION of the year features Avatara Smith-Carrington (they/them), an attorney who believes in litigating from the margins. As a Black, queer, and trans person, Avatara dedicates their time and talents to work that explores, examines, and addresses the impact of discrimination on the lives of multiply-oppressed people. Examples of their work over the last several years includes combating efforts to censor discussion on race and gender in the classroom; expanding access to health care and accurate identity documents for transgender people; and contributing to scholarship on the TSA’s algorithmic policing of gender and how deployment of new surveillance technologies disproportionately impact disabled people. By building from the margins, Avatara is sowing into the promise of a future where no one is rendered invisible or deemed disposable.

From Jan-April 2026, Trans/Action will be focused on getting to know local trans leaders. TMD will be hosting weekly Policy Meetings on Wednesdays at 6pm, and don’t want to duplicate our content. Policy Meeting sign up link is in our Link tree, as is the Trans/Action link
